"From Descent to Ascension" is a highly ambitious, long-running animated project based on Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy".
The Divine Comedy is a poem written by Dante Alighieri between 1307 and 1316, and it's considered a masterpiece of Italian literature and one of the peaks of world's literature. It describes an initiatory journey in which Dante himself descends into hell and then ascends to paradise through purgatory. It is a representation of human morals and behavior that belonged to the late medieval and early renaissance age. I fell in love with the poem when I was in high school, and I've been reading it ever since. I decided that I wanted to focus my energy and abilities on making a visual work based on Dante's poem. One of the current values that I have found in the poem, despite the fact that it is a work of more than six hundred years old, is that being in hell is like living without hope: "abandon forever all hope ye who enter here".
Through Dante's work I will create a critical view of the current political figures of our contemporany world in the last 100 years. While it is not possible to include everyone that I would like, I will at least include many acquaintances who will appear both as punished souls and as souls who enjoy the pleasure of being in the paradise. The images in the videos speak for themselves.
